12-Month 5.25% “Kids Certificate” at BCU
BCU (Baxter Credit Union), one of the largest credit unions in Illinois, has a good CD for children under 18 years old: a 5.25% 12-month CD. The biggest restriction on this CD, other than the obvious (age of the account owner), is that there’s a limit of $7500 deposit per child. This offer is expected to be good through the end of the year, although it’s possible BCU may pull it if rates drop further.
BCU is open to anyone who lives in Lake County (Illinois), DuPage County, McHenry County, Kane County, Cook County north of Route 58, the city of Schaumberg, or Kenosha County in Wisconsin. The best that I can tell — the website is very unclear — there are six area branches of BCU, listed below for your convenience:
