3.75% 5-year CD (and other decent CDs) at American Eagle Bank of Chicago and South Elgin
American Eagle Bank of Chicago and American Eagle Bank of South Elgin both have a few pretty good CD rates right now. The best both of them have is a 5-year CD that’s earning 3.75% APY with a minimum of $1000. (Coverdell ESA CDs have a minimum of $500.) American Eagle Bank of Chicago has other two good shorter-term CDs: a 9-month CD earning 3.65% APY, and a 1-year CD earning 3.50% APY. South Elgin has nothing else quite that high, although they do have 2- and 3-year CDs earning 3.35% APY. These CDs also have the same $1000 minimum.
American Eagle Bank of Chicago is located at 2129 North Western Ave in Chicago. American Eagle Bank of South Elgin is located at 556 Randall Road in, of course, South Elgin.
4.50% 7-month CD/4.60% checking at American Eagle Bank of Chicago
American Eagle Bank of Chicago has two good deals going on. First they’re offering a 7-month CD at 4.50% APY. This CD doesn’t seem to have any minimum, and it has a 30-day early withdrawal penalty. Even better might be their Platinum NOW Checking Account Special, which guarantees a 4.60% APY on your checking account as long as you have direct deposit. (If you don’t, the rate drops to 2.50%.) The checking account has a $500 minimum to earn interest and to avoid service charges.
American Eagle Bank of Chicago has one branch: 2129 N. Western Ave. in Chicago. Thanks to American Eagle Bank of Chicago for e-mailing me about these deals.
6-month, 6% CD (or Money Market) at American Eagle Bank
(Note: This deal is no longer available.)
The Chicago branch of American Eagle Bank is offering a 6-month CD at an amazing 6.00% APY — .50% better than any similar CD in the Chicago area. (CenTrust Bank, which has a 6-month, 5.50% CD, comes the closest.) As another option, American Eagle Bank, Chicago Branch has a “6 Month Guarantee Money Market” which will earn 6.00% APY on all balances over $1,000 for the first six months the account is opened. The end result is the same, but the money market gives more liquidity, so that might be a smarter option.
In addition, American Eagle in Chicago is offering a 12-month, 5.50% CD, which is the highest 1-year CD offered by a bank in the Chicago area. The only restriction listed: “All rates and promotions are available to residents of the Greater Chicagoland Metropolitan Statistical Area and current customers.”
American Eagle Bank has two branches — in Chicago and South Elgin — but from what I can tell, only the Chicago branch (2129 N. Western Ave) is offering these special CDs. If you’d like to try the South Elgin branch to see if they’ll match the CD rate, it’s at 556 Randall Rd., but I make no promises.
